Southeast Tennis and Learning Center - North

The Southeast Tennis and Learning Center (https://dpr.dc.gov/page/southeast-tennis-and-learning-center-setlc) (SETLC) is a world-class, state-of-the-art, premier 48,000SF indoor tennis facility located in Ward 8 inside of Oxon Run Park. The center serves as a model for public/private partnerships, sharing resources and talents of the Recreation Wish List Committee (RWLC) and DPR. The crown jewel facility offers tennis programming for residents of all ages. The center has served more than 75,000 District youth by providing tennis instruction, tutoring, life skills, developmental chess, and educational and personal reinforcement to the District’s youth since 2001. The facility and the grounds houses multiple amenities, including:

  • Six indoor tennis hard courts
  • Spectator seating
  • Fitness room
  • Computer room
  • Library
  • Multi-purpose room
  • Kitchen.
  • Six outdoor tennis hard courts
  • One outdoor clay-tech court
  • Tennis-themed playground
  • Parking area

Nationally renowned programs such as coding, Sew N Know, Blacks in Wax, USTA Arthur Ashe Kids Day, and SETLC Summer Camp empower youth. The facility is home to the George Washington University Men’s and Women’s Tennis teams. SETLC hosts 20 USTA-sanctioned tournaments a year and USTA Adult Winter Leagues. The facility also hosts Blacks in Wax, a premier life-changing experiential learning program for District youth. Blacks in Wax takes child athletes from a drama workshop after school at a recreation center to performing at the world-renowned Kennedy Center in a matter of months. Blacks in Wax is living art and an innovative model of arts and education.


Southeast Tennis and Learning Center - South

SETLC is undergoing an expansion (https://dgs.dc.gov/node/1593736) that will expand the area to encompass an additional 4.5 acres, located just south of the existing facility. The new expansion will create an both an indoor tennis facility and outdoor recreational area that will further expand the range of opportunities and to host additional programs. These include:

  • Three indoor tennis hardcourts
  • Locker rooms
  • Indoor kitchenette
  • Multi-purpose rooms.
  • Four outdoor tennis hardcourts
  • Four outdoor additional pickleball court

By expanding the facility, the south campus will allow DPR to offer a more versatile programmable space.The space may be used for neighborhood events, school outreach programs, corporate events, and other uses. The community room will also have technology to view tennis tournaments and movies. Some of the programs that are currently slated to be hosted at SETLC-South include:

  • Toddler Tennis Programs
  • Youth Tennis Programs, including lessons, freeplay, and local and national tournaments
  • Adult Tennis Programs, including lessons, games, team practices, leagues, and tournaments
  • Senior Tennis Programs, including lessons, leagues, and tournaments
  • Pickleball lessons and tournaments for Junior, Adult, and Senior groups
  • Young Men Future Leaders Program
  • Kids Day Events
