In 2022, the District Department of Energy & Environment, in partnership with the District Department of Parks & Recreation, the National Park Service, and DC Water, kicked off the Oxon Run Stream Design and Park Master Plan project.
Project Goals:
1. Programming & Opportunities: Stimulate outdoor educational, recreational, and creative activities for the community.
2. Access: Increase safe and equitable access and connectivity from adjacent neighborhoods to the park and stream.
3. Resiliency: Improve neighborhood climate resiliency by mitigating flooding and improving water quality of stream and groundwater.
4. Biodiversity: Reintroduce repairan and aquatic biodiversity and increase urban habitats and tree canopy.
To accomplish these goals, the team has been at work developing the Oxon Run Master Park Plan, that will highlight the District's and the community's goals for the park. The Master Park Plan is being created with community engagement and through our partnership and consultation with important leaders in the community. The team is excited to continue to engage with the local community to update plans and envision new possibilities at Oxon Run Park.
